Tin Tetrachloride, anhydrous (Cont.)
(Stannic Chloride, Anhydrous; Tin (IV) Chloride,
anhydrous)
Safety and Health:
-
Inhalation of Stannic Chloride
can irritate or burn the respiratory system, due to reaction with moisture to form highly corrosive
hydrochloric acid. Severity of corrosive effect depends on duration on of exposure and concentration of
product inhaled. Severe delayed corrosive effect on respiratory system may occur.
-
Contact with the skin can cause
moderate to severe burns, especially in the presence of moisture. Eye contact can cause burns and
possible blindness.
-
Ingestion may burn the
gastrointestinal system due to formation of hydrochloric acid.
-
Flammability: Stannic Chloride
is not flammable.
-
Reactivity: Stannic Chloride
can absorb moisture from the air. Contact with water can cause a slightly exothermic reaction yielding
corrosive hydrogen chloride gas.
-
Environmental Hazards: Release
of this material to the environment can cause harm to aquatic and terrestrial habitats.
-
Emergency Considerations: Care
to avoid the use of water in response to spills or in fire response should be taken as highly toxic
hydrogen chloride gas can be released.
Thoroughly read and understand the information in the Material Safety Data Sheet prior
to using Tin Tetrachloride
